Regional Referral Center

One call does it all.

Wyoming Medical Center operates the Regional Referral Center to meet physicians’ need for a single point of contact. Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, dedicated and courteous referral specialists ensure that “one call does it all.”

Referral specialists gather and disseminate important information and coordinate various arrangements, often saving doctors and their patients critical time. Duties include locating medical specialists, facilitating physician-to-physician consultations, arranging for transportation, completing pre-registration and reserving bed space at medical facilities, providing families with information and making follow-up calls.

The Referral Center also serves as the dispatch and communications headquarters for Casper’s ambulances and Wyoming Life Flight. Designated specialists are responsible for every aspect of every flight. Relying on the latest technology and training in air medical communications, they obtain information, alert crews, take care of special travel arrangements, monitor local helipad weather and security cameras, maintain flight crew on-call schedules, provide crews with messaging services and track flights.

Although WMC runs the Regional Referral Center and Wyoming Life Flight, these services are available to patients whose physicians recommend transfer to another facility. In addition, the Referral Center maintains specialty physician lists for hospitals in five states and will make arrangements with other flight services for transport to the closest, most appropriate facility if doing so is in the best interest of the patient.
