What is a Doula and what role do they play in the birthing experience?
Doulas are trained to provide physical, emotional and spiritual support to the laboring family. They accompany a woman or couple throughout the birthing experience.

What does a Doula provide?
A Doula provides:

  • Reassurance
  • Emotional support
  • Physical comfort
  • Assistance
  • Studies show when a woman uses a trained labor support person there is a:

  • 50% reduction in caesarean birth
  • 30% decrease in requests for pain medication
  • 25% decrease in length of labor
  • 25% decrease in oxytocin use
